Terms of use

These are the terms for using pocketwage.com and the Pocket Wage app. They are short because the product is simple: a calculator, a philosophy, and a ledger for running pocket money at home. Using the site or the app means you agree to them.

What Pocket Wage is, and isn't

• It is a way of running pocket money. It suggests an hourly rate for household jobs, worked out from your country's minimum wage and your child's age, and keeps a record of jobs, paydays and balances.
• It is not a financial product. No money is held, moved, paid or stored by Pocket Wage. The balance in the app is a record of what a parent owes a child, and it is the parent who pays, in cash or however the family likes. We are not a bank, a wallet, a payment service or a financial adviser.
• It is not advice. The rates are a model, not a recommendation about what your family should pay. The philosophy is an opinion. What you pay your children, and whether you pay them at all, is your call.

The numbers

For the countries we curate, rates come from the official minimum-wage sources linked on every page, and we refresh them when the law changes. For every other country the rate is an estimate from published sources, marked as such, and a parent can set the exact figure in the app. We work hard to keep them right, but we cannot promise they are error-free or current on any given day, and a rate on this site is never a statement of what an employer legally owes anyone.

Accounts and families

• You must be an adult to create a family. Children use Pocket Wage only inside a parent's or guardian's family.
• A parent who adds a child confirms they are that child's parent or guardian, or have that person's permission. Every guardian in a family can see and change the whole family's ledger.
• Keep your sign-in email secure. Anyone with access to it can sign in as you.
• You can close your family's account at any time by emailing hello@pocketwage.com, and we will delete it as described in our privacy page.

Fair use

Use Pocket Wage for running pocket money in your own family. Do not use it to harass anyone, to scrape or copy the site or the wage dataset for another product, to interfere with the service, or for anything unlawful. We may suspend or close an account that does.

Our content

The Pocket Wage name, the writing, the illustrations and the design are ours. You are welcome to share pages and rate links, and to quote us with attribution. Please do not republish the site or present it as your own.

Availability and liability

Pocket Wage is provided as is. We aim to keep it available and correct, but we do not guarantee either, and we may change or withdraw features. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for any loss arising from using Pocket Wage, including from a rate being wrong or the service being unavailable. Nothing in these terms removes rights you have under the Australian Consumer Law or other consumer protection law that cannot be excluded.

Changes to these terms

If these terms change in a way that matters, the date at the top changes and account holders get an email. Continuing to use Pocket Wage after that means you accept the new terms.

Law

These terms are governed by the laws of New South Wales, Australia.
